The company was formed through a reverse takeover of African Gold plc, the AIM-listed African gold exploration and mining company, by a privately held mining company, Mwana Africa Holdings (Pty) Limited.
Mwana Africa PLC has a broad range of exploration and development projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) one is the Katanga Concessions (formerly Anmercosa Exploration Sprl). Mwana has a 100% beneficial holding in the Katanga Concessions (which is subject to a joint venture exploration Option Agreement with Anglo American). Another is the Société Minière de Bakwanga (MIBA). In May 2006 Mwana Africa acquired Umicore’s subsidiary, Sibeka, the major asset of which was a 20% interest in MIBA, based in Mbuji Mayi. MIBA’s other shareholder is the Government of the DRC. Another is the Alluvial exploration. Mwana interests are Tshikapa Project: 70% interest
Badibanga Project: 100% interest. Yet another is the Kimberlite exploration and the Zani-Kodo Project.
